If you loved the vintage Nike running shoes from the 1970's, like the Waffle Race and the Cortez, you can stop shopping at garage sales and obscure websites. The Beaverton, Ore., company has relaunched a retro collection at a special website, www.nikevintage.com, which features an entertaining storybook which will take you backk 30 years.
"We are runners -- members of a pioneering family changing the world one waffle-coated, foam-cushioned stride at a time," reads the letter from the fictitious editor of "Oregon Runner" posted at the website.
Five shoes, all but one featuring the famous waffle soles, are available: Cortez, LD-1000, Daybreak, Waffle Racer, and Oregon Waffle.
The site does not recommend actually running in these low-tech shoes, but thousands did 30 years ago.
