Athletics: Felicien steps on podium again; wins gold in Austria

Wednesday, September 12, 2007

OTTAWA – Perdita Felicien from Pickering, ON won gold last night in a time of 12.73 in the 100 metre hurdles at the 20th edition of the Intersport Gugl-Meeting.  The win comes two weeks after capturing a silver medal at the 2007 World Championships in Japan.  Angela Whyte, who made the final and finished 8th at the World Championships, took the bronze in 12.87.

Other Canadians at the Intersport Gugl-Meeting

Carmen Douma-Hussar from Cambridge, ON crossed the line in 2:42.53 to finish 7th in the women’s 1000 metres.

The Intersport meet is part of a group of International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) approved competitions where athletes can accumulate points to qualify for the World Athletics Final.  The World Athletics Final takes place in Stuttgart, Germany September 22-23 and will be broadcast on CBC.

The top 7 ranked athletes in each event automatically qualify for the World Athletics Final (top 11 for events of 1500 metres or more).  The IAAF also reserves the right to invite one wild-card athlete per event.
