OTTAWA - The 5th IAAF World Athletics Final takes place this weekend in Stuttgart, Germany in front of an expected sell-out crowd of 54 000 spectators. Four Canadians will be lining up at Gottlieb Daimler Stadium with the objective of stepping on the podium.
2007 World Championship silver medalist Perdita Felicien of Pickering, ON will compete in the 100 metre hurdles on Saturday September 22 at 14:40 local time. Edmontons Tyler Christopher will participate in the 400 metre dash at 15:00 on Saturday. Christopher finished 6th at Worlds. In the womens 1500 metres is Carmen Douma-Hussar of Cambridge, ON with a race start of 15:30 on Saturday. Kevin Sullivan of Brantford, ON is in the mens 1500 metres on Sunday September 233rd at 14:10. The complete schedule is available at www.iaaf.org/WAF07/results/byEvent.html.
The World Athletics Final is the final event in the 2007 World Athletics tour which consists of 24 meetings throughout the year. To qualify for the Final, athletes are awarded points for their top five performances of the tour (top four for field athletes). In each event the seven athletes who score the most points are invited to compete in the final (top 11 for distances over 1500 metres). Points are tabulated throughout to determine the World Athletics Final starters.
