Youth events receive gold and bronze medal awards from Governor's Council on Physical Fitness & Sports
CARLSBAD, Calif. - (September 27, 2007) - The Keebler® Kids Marathon Mile and the Union-Tribune Magic Mile, two children's running events managed by In Motion, Inc. of Carlsbad, Calif., were awarded Bronze and Gold medals, respectively, at the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports Spotlight Awards.
The Council's Spotlight Awards honor individuals, organizations and events that employ innovation, inspiration and initiative to significantly impact the physical activity and fitness levels of California children and youth. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger presented the Gold Medal awards at a ceremony in Sacramento on Tuesday, September 18, 2007.
"It is an honor for us to be recognized for contributing to something as important as the health and welfare of children," said Lynn Flanagan, president of In Motion, Inc., a full service event management firm. "We are a family owned and operated business and the health and welfare of children are important to us."
The Keebler Kids Marathon Mile, a one-mile fun run/walk through LEGOLAND® California, is held annually in January the day prior to the Carlsbad Marathon and Half Marathon. The event was recognized for its positive impact on fitness levels and the well being of California children and youth. Last year, 26 participating schools received funds from the race through its "Run for Your School" program, whereby part of the entry fee for schools with ten or more entries is donated back to that school. The Council's award included a $1000 prize.
Additionally, the Union-Tribune Magic Mile, an event managed by In Motion Inc., won distinction for the San Diego Union-Tribune as the Council's "2007 Company of the Year" for its involvement in bringing together kids, families and schools to live a healthy and active lifestyle. The award brought with it a $10,000 prize. The one-mile fun run / walk is held annually in May at San Diego's Balboa Park in conjunction with The Union-Tribune Race for Literacy 8K. Approximately 5,000 children participate every year.
The 2008 Keebler Kids Marathon Mile is set for Saturday, January 19 and the 2008 Union-Tribune Magic Mile is scheduled for Saturday, May 3. For more information, please visit InMotionEvents.com or call (760) 692-2900.
