Abrasion-Resistant Sock Hits Soft Spot with Interbike Buyers
Hildebran, NC (October, 2007) – DeFeet’s new Cloud 9 performance socks, the first-ever COOLMAX® socks with Cordura® yarn used in a blended technique, was a big hit with buyers at the September Interbike show in Las Vegas. Extremely durable, yet soft as a cloud, this sock will go the distance for long bike rides or runs. As one of the largest and most innovative cycling shows in the world, Interbike attracts 10,000 buyers and more than 1,000 brands.
“We had a tremendous buyer response to Cloud 9 at the show. Everyone was excited about our new product – a durable sock with a super-soft hand,” says Shane Cooper, founder of DeFeet. “This product line combines the amazing moisture wicking of CoolMax® fabric with the abrasion resistance of Cordura® yarn. We know that customers are going to be just as thrilled with this sock as we are!”
Ultra marathoner and owner of Red Rock Running Company in Las Vegas was thoroughly impressed with the sock’s performance and feel. “I did a 24-mile run in the [Cloud 9] sock. I have never - in 29 years of running - felt a softer, better fitting sock with great compression and shape. It was so good that I had to do laundry so I could wear it again the next day!”
Cordura® yarn from INVISTA is abrasion-resistant, high-performance and extremely durable, lending itself to use in athletic apparel. DeFeet’s product development team was so impressed with the abrasion test results that they decided to use Cordura® yarn in Cloud 9, the company’s first targeted running sock in 15 years.
To help launch the new collection, CoolMax® and DeFeet hosted a party with sponsors by LYCRA and Cordura®.at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay. The event featured 80s cover band, formed by Cooper, and the group’s newest musical incarnation, The Triple Kranks. The party was attended by special guest, Tour de France Champion Greg LeMond.
DeFeet has had a long history with using the latest technology in its socks. In 1993, the company incorporated Cordura® yarn using a plaited technique into the heel and toe. DeFeet uses CoolMax® fabric in other product categories, such as gloves, armwarmers, and kneewarmers.
