OTTAWA - The 2008 TransCanada Canadian Championships and Run with the Champions will take place on October 18 2008 in the nation’s capital. The event offers the unique opportunity to mingle and run alongside Canada’s best road running athletes. New for 2008 will be the addition of a 5km race to Run with the Champions.
The 2007 edition saw Dylan Wykes of Kingston, ON win the Canadian title in 29:49.5 with Megan Metcalfe of Edmonton, AB taking the women’s title in 33:26.0. In the Canadian wheelchair division Michel Filteau of St. Jean Baptiste, QC and Chantal Petitclerc of Montreal, QC won in 22:47.0 and 26:11.9 respectively. Clayton Gerein of Pilot Butte, SK and Tannis Hancock of Saskatoon, SK won the Canadian Wheelchair Quad Championship division.
The 2007 Championships also served as the Timex Road Race Series Finale. In the men’s division Curtis Archibald won with a time of 32:36.7 with Denise Robson taking the women’s crown in 35:50.6. Overall Nova Scotia won the Timex series provincial title with Ontario finishing in second and Alberta in third. The High School Challenge was won by Merivale High School with Louis Riel placing second.
Event notes
In its second year the event saw a 100% increase in participation… the race will always take place the Saturday following Thanksgiving… online registration for 2008 will soon be available, stay tuned for an announcement regarding this and other exciting news regarding TransCanada Run with the Champions 2008… Full results are available at www.transcanada10km.ca.
