Great Britain placed two women and one man in the top ten at Sunday's Cancun
BG Triathlon World Cup in Mexico.
Jodie Swallow was the top Briton, finishing fourth, just a few seconds off
the podium in an exciting sprint finish. With a season-best world cup
result, the 2004 Olympian also picks up substantial Olympic and world cup
ranking points, catapulting her to number 42 in the world having come into
Cancun ranked 85. Kerry Lang also leaps up the rankings with a career-best
eighth place finish, moving to 51 from 70.
Reigning U.S. National Champion Julie Ertel won her first career world cup,
highlighting a gold-bronze finish for the Americans. France's Carole Peon
celebrated her birthday with a fantastic sprint finish to edge out Sarah
Haskins for the silver and her first career world cup podium.

In the men's field, Stuart Hayes finished a British-best eighth place while
teammate Andrew Johns came across the line in 23rd. With the top ten
placing, Hayes moves up to number 12 in the world cup rankings.
In a day of North American dominance Simon Whitfield claimed his third world
cup title of the year and the tenth of his career, leading a gold-silver
Canadian finish. Whitfield, the 2000 Olympic gold medalist edged out
teammate Paul Tichelaar who earned his first trip to the world cup podium.
Volodymyr Polikarpenko of the Ukraine took the bronze, preventing a full
Canadian podium sweep with Brent McMahon in fourth place.
