The Ironman France taking place on 22 June 2008 will soon be sold out. More than 1200 athletes have already signed up which leaves only 600 more spaces available. The popular long distance triathlon on the Côte d’Azur attracts athletes from 50 countries each year and offers 50 slots for the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii.
After three years of adjusting the race the Ironman France – Nice Triathlon is ready to welcome competitors in perfect conditions. “The only thing we do not have under control is the weather, but guess why hundreds of thousands of people spend their holidays on the French Riviera?” says Yves Cordier, triathlon-legend and race director of the Ironman France in his hometown Nice. “We are proud that after three years only we will reach the maximum number of participants. This is the best feedback we can get from our athletes.”
1800 athletes will be allowed to race the Ironman France next June. While most of the other Ironman events are already sold out for 2008, the only Ironman race on French territory still offers a few spots - but watch out as these will soon be sold out! The 1000-entrants-mark was crossed at the end of January for the 2007 edition and now already on the 13 November we crossed the 1200 entrants mark, showing that we are far ahead of last year’s signup success.
Traditionally, athletes from the United Kingdom are fastest signing up for the French race with already 23,3% of registered athletes. Close behind with 20% are French athletes who are known to sign up very late for a race, but they will have to be quick this year in order to secure their spot! The third most popular nationality represented in the race is Mexico with some 160 athletes coming to the Côte d’Azur in a chartered airplane.
At the moment athletes are coming from 40 different countries, and until the last entry there will be almost 50 nationalities represented. The Ironman France is one of the most international Ironman races worldwide.
The Ironman France will take place on 22 June 2008 for the fourth time. The race has the potential to become the biggest European triathlon party, and the 2008 edition will be a great foretaste. The night before the competition Nice will celebrate the “fête de la musique” with concerts and DJs while the biggest sportive musical fiesta will start at 6h00 on race day morning to get athletes to the finishline until 22h30.
Participants can win 50 slots for the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii taking place on 11 October 2008. A total price purse of 50.000 USD will be distributed evenly between Top 10 PRO women and men. Don’t miss out – Register today - www.ironmanfrance.com!
