Increased demand leads to registration extension
Ras Al Khaimah November, 28, 2007: Organizers of the UAE’s premier international half marathon have today announced an extension to the registration deadline. Nathan Clayton, CEO of race organizers Premier Marathons reported that, “Many companies are still busy collecting registrations to participate in the Team Relay Challenge and with our new Inter-School / College / University prize categories, we felt it only fair to give everyone who wants to enter, a little more t! ime to do so.”
With over 200,000$ in total prize money, the RAK International Half Marathon is the richest half marathon in the world and with a world record breaking time in its first edition last February, the race has attracted a lot of interest from far and wide. Operations Manager, Rami Turk also oversees the Registration Department and noted; “To date we have accepted hundreds of entries from both the UAE and abroad. Already we have welcomed runners representing more than 45 different countries. This is one of the many aspects that make this a truly international race and showcases Ras Al Khaimah as being equally as capable of hosting international events as other areas in the region.
Organizers also! reported that late registration charges would not be applied ! during D ecember as previously stated, due to the extension of the registration deadline. The ‘late registration’ period will now be from January 1st – 11th 2008 when registrations will still be accepted with a 50% late registration fee added on. “This is a race that is not all about making money,” Clayton added, “it’s a race for the people of the UAE, an opportunity for people of all walks of life to come together on a common ground and take part in a fun filled and memorable event. This is why we are not focused on adding late fees, we’d rather people use their money to sponsor others taking part and raise much needed funds for charity.”
50% of all registration fees in all races, along with 100% of late registration fees will all be donated to the Official Race Charity, the Paul Tergat Foundation.
