Triathlon: Montreal’s Kathy Trembley top Canadian Finisher at Triathlon World Cup finale

EILAT, Israel – Kathy Trembley of Montreal was the top finishing Canadian today at the 2007 BG Triathlon World Cup series finale in the resort city of Eilat, Israel. Trembley managed an eighth place finish amongst a difficult field of top international competitors. The top-10 finish is a key result in her bid to compete in the Beijing Olympic Games. Trembley was the top finishing of three women athletes today but could not conquer Switzerland’s Nicola Spirig as she capped off her 2007 season in style, winning the first world cup of her career today in the women’s competition. Juri Ide of Japan came across the line in second place, also notching her first world cup medal. Coming back from a lower leg injury, Australian Annabel Luxford took the bronze, her 16th trip to the world cup podium. Sean Bechtel, from the Toronto area, was the only Canadian man racing today, finishing 41st. Hirokatsu Tayama of Japan, last year’s Asian Champion, won the men’s competition of the 2007 Eilat BG Triathlon World Cup, claiming the first world cup gold ever for the island nation.
