Athletics: Jensen honored with Giegengack Award

HONOLULU - USATF Board member, coach and official Dee Jensen on Saturday was honored with USA Track & Field's Giegengack Award at the Jesse Owens Awards and National Track & Field Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in Honolulu. The event was held in conjunction with the 2007 USATF Annual Meeting.

Named in honor of former Yale University coach and 1964 Olympic Team head coach Robert Giegengack, the award goes to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the development and success of USA Track & Field and the larger community of the sport. In the past, the award has gone to coaches, officials, Association leaders, administrators, and others from all segments of USATF. The USATF Board of Directors votes to select each year's winner.

A Vice President of USATF, Jensen serves on the USATF Board of Directors, Women's Track & Field Executive Committee and the National Track & Field Officials Committee. She has served on the Budget and Finance Committee, Championship Site Selection Committee, U.S. Women's Coaches Association Executive Committee and the National Championship Officials Selection Committee.

A former IAAF Women's Committee member, Jensen has served USATF internationally as the Chef de Mission for the World Junior Championships in 1998, Assistant Manager for the World Outdoor Championships in 1997 and as a Chief Judge of the high jump at the Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996. She also was a high jump official at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and was the Head Manager for the Goodwill Games in 1990 and the USA vs. Great Britain outdoor meet in 1993.

Jensen coached track & field at the Junior College level for twenty-eight years at North Dakota State College of Science and served as a Vice President of the NJCAA Coaches Association. She is a member of the NJCAA Track & Field Hall of Fame. A frequent NCAA Division I and II referee, Jensen is an IAAF Area Technical Official.
