World-record-holder Daniel Komen from Kenya tries his comeback at the New Year's eve race
in Trier over 8 k. The best runner ever at 3 k (7:20.67) will compete with the bronze medallist of
the word championchips in Osaka, Moses Kipsiro from Uganda, who won in Trier in 2005 and
2006, and European 10.000-m-champion Jan Fitschen who, after nearly four weeks in a high altitude training camp in Kenya, is in top shape.
In the women's race over 5 k three time German champion, and former 2nd in the European
cross country-championchips, Sabrina Mockenhaupt is the favourite.
Nearly 2000 runners from 25 nations will run in Trier on December, 31st. Samba-bands and about
15,000 spectators give the race in Trier the name "Germany's Sao Paulo" after the oldest New
Year's Eve Race in Brasil.
