Athletics: Athletics Canada publishes Selection Criteria and Standards for 2008 Paralympic Games

OTTAWA – Athletics Canada announced today the selection criteria and required performance standards for the 2008 Paralympic Games. The Games will be held in Beijing, China September 6 to 17, 2008. · 2008 Paralympic Games Selection Criteria and Performance Standards “I want to thank all who had input into this selection policy; it’s always a difficult task. It is a very tough process, so is the competition,” said Earl Church, Para-Athletics Head Coach. The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) recently announced the quota allocation in athletics for each country. Canada received a total quota of 26 athletes, 10 females and 16 males. The quotas are established by the IPC using a combination of factors, particularly, how Canada fared at the 2006 World Championships in Assen, Netherlands and how Canadian athletes ranked internationally at the conclusion of the 2007 season.
