The 12th IAAF World Indoor Championships opens one week from Friday in Valencia, Spain, and a $2.5MM prize money purse will be on the line, not including the $50,000 world record bonuses which will be on offer. Prize money will be paid 6-deep in individual and relay events: $40,000-20,000-10,000-8,000-6,000-4,000.
The United States announced their team today, and their best medal hopes are in the men's shotput (Christian Cantwell and defending champion Reesa Hoffa), men's and women's pole vault (Brad Walker and Jenn Stuczynski), and in the 60m hurdles (Lolo Jones and Allen Johnson). Top sprint stars like Tyson Gay, Jeremy Wariner, Allyson Felix and Sanya Richards did not take part in last weekend's AT&T U.S. Indoor Championships, so they are not eligible to compete in Valencia.
In the middle and long distance events, half-milers Khadevis Robinson and Nick Symmonds are the strongest U.S. entrants and could make the final.
NOTE: Race Results Weekly will have complete on-site coverage of the meet from Valencia --Ed.
