Milers have a new earnings opportunity for 2008 thanks to the generosity of the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon.
The Medtronic TC 1 Mile, scheduled for May 8, along Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis, is offering a $25,000 prize money purse, making it the second richest road mile in the United States behind the Continental Airlines Fifth Avenue Mile in New York City. In addition, the race is offering a very tempting $10,000 bonus to the male and female winners should they achieve fast times.
"The $25,000 prize purse is the culmination of the vision to bring a highly competitive field to downtown Minneapolis, not only to showcase the beauty of the city, but to recognize the phenomenal growth and interest in this race," said Twin Cities Marathon, Inc. race director, Brian Mastel through a media release. "In addition to first place prize money of $4,000, we're excited to also offer a $10,000 bounty each to the first place male breaking four minutes and to the first place female breaking 4:28."
This will be the fourth year for the event, and registration for the all-comer races opens on March 13. More information is available at mtcmarathon.org.
