Samantha McGlone, 2007 Triathlete of the Year, has reworked her relationship with Zoot Sports to include footwear. McGlone’s new contract, which extends through 2012, includes footwear, apparel and wetsuits.
“Zoot isn’t your ordinary sports company,” said McGlone. “It’s a very committed and focused multisports company and there is no better sponsorship-home for a triathlete than Zoot. It is a company that knows the sport, cares about the sport and promotes the sport. After testing Zoot’s new footwear, this is something I really wanted to happen and it’s great that it has.”
“Sam is an integral part of the Zoot family and we’re proud of her accomplishments both on the course as a multiple-time champion, and off the course, as a very positive, determined and well-respected athlete (individual), said Elisette Carlson, Zoot’s Marketing Director. “She is our premier female athlete and our strategy going forward will be to have all of our athletes in Zoot head-to-toe.”
“Our ULTRA Footwear Collection was designed specifically to address problems athletes face with their footwear,” commented Carlson. “Our product is different and more innovative than others because we have involved both runners and triathletes in the design process from day one. Whether it is footwear, apparel, wetsuits or accessories, our design mantra remains the same: Identify problems that athletes’ encounter in racing and training and provide solutions to those specific problems.”
“I am eager to be part of the design process”, said McGlone. “Running shoes are the most important piece of equipment that we use (and it is good to be able to provide input and see it implemented...”
McGlone is tentatively planning on an eleven race season kicking off as early as Ironman 70.3 California at the end of the month. “My 2008 race schedule will look a lot like last year with a mix of 70.3 races and short distance races leading into Kona and Clearwater,” commented McGlone. “To keep things interesting I’m adding some new races such as 70.3 Kansas and the IronGirl race in Las Vegas.”
