Vaill, Stroupe win Race Walk Team Trials

2004 Olympian and American record holder Teresa Vaill won the women's race, and Patrick Stroupe captured the men's title Sunday at the 2008 USA Team Trials - IAAF World Race Walking Cup in Eugene, Oregon.

The top five finishers in each of the 20 km races qualify for the right to represent Team USA at the IAAF World Race Walking Cup, to be held May 10-11 in Cheboksary, Russia.

Vaill crossed the finish line in 1 hour 36 minutes 18 seconds in winning the women's race after beating back a strong challenge from 2003 Pan Am Games bronze medalist Joanne Dow, who finished as the runner-up in 1:38:36. Susan Armenta was third in 1:39:01, with Sam Cohen fourth in 1:40:52 and Stephanie Casey fifth in 1:41:47.

Patrick Stroupe won the highly competitive men's race in 1:30:29, with John Nunn finishing as the runner-up in 1:30:50. Two-time Olympian Tim Seaman finished third in 1:32:48, with Michael Tarantino placing fourth in 1:33:11 and Christopher Tegtmeier crossing the line in fifth place in 1:34:46.
