Highlights for APRIL, 2008 include:

  • The country’s best, including mile record holder Alan Webb have a man-on-man battle in Central Park in the USA 8000 Meter Championship, staged by New York Road Runners.
  • A powerful storm kept the 15,000 starters and the elites out front on alert in the Gate River Run 15K in Jacksonville.
  • A two mile run, a twelve mile cycling leg, then another two mile run. Multi-sport athletes come out of the closet in the New York City Biathlon.
  • Coogan’s Salsa Blues & Shamrocks 5K, a moving festival in Washington Heights , for those who like to dance to a beat of a different drummer, whatever that might be.
  • The New York Colon Cancer Challenge 15K, a New York Road Runners club points race, brings out metro area stars.
  • U.S. Olympian Shalane Flanagan leads the field in the Women’s Invitational 8000 in Central Park .
  • The 26.2 mile marathon is just a warm up for those who competed in the Six Day Races in the early eighties.
  • The beauty of Scotland calls. And so does the starting line in the Scotland Run with over 8,000 answering the hail of the pipers.
