Triathlon: 2007 Ford Ironman World Championship 70.3 To Air This Saturday on NBC

Friday, April 11, 2008: Tune in this Saturday, April 12, as NBC showcases the 2007 Ford Ironman World Championship 70.3 from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. EST.

Shot on location in one of the world’s top beach destinations in Clearwater, FL, on November 10, 2007, the broadcast leads viewers on a fast-paced, 70.3 mile journey consisting of a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike and a 13.1 mile run. The swim takes place in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico, while the bike and run portions showcase the picturesque areas throughout Pinellas County as well as the beaches of Clearwater. Andy Potts, a highly decorated athlete with Olympic and short-course success sprinted to a first place finish with a time of 3:42:33. Australia’s Mirinda Carfrae broke the 2006 women’s record and claimed the title with a finish time of 4:07:25. In addition to a competitive professional field, more than 1,400 other athletes ranging in age from 19 to 82 years old also crossed the finish line at the 2007 Ford Ironman World Championship 70.3.

New to this year’s telecast, viewers will have the first-ever opportunity for a sneak peek at the 2008 Ironman Lottery winners. All 150 names of the U.S. based winners of coveted slots to the world’s most challenging endurance event, the Ford Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, will be displayed at the end of the show. The official announcement of the lottery results will follow via Ironman’s official Web site, www.ironman.com on Tuesday, April 15 at 12:00 p.m. EST.

The NBC broadcast of the Ironman World Championship has received numerous accolades throughout the last two decades, to include more than 40 Emmy nominations, 14 Emmy awards, three prestigious CINE Golden Eagle awards and five International Monitor Awards for Global Excellence.
