Orlando, FL - The women’s field at the 2008 Ford Ironman 70.3 Florida has just got tougher with the addition of two multiple Ironman champions. Lisa Bentley, an eleven-time Ironman champion, has confirmed her entry as has Heather Gollnick of Bradenton, FL.
Bentley, 39, of Ontario, CAN, has posted a number of excellent results at the 70.3 distance. She had a 2nd place finish at the 2006 Ford Ironman World Championship 70.3 in a time of 4:14:30 and won the Pucon 70.3 event in both 2006 and 2007. Her best finish at the Ford Ironman World Championship was a 3rd place in 2006. She has five Ironman Australia titles and three Subaru Ironman Canada titles to her credit.
Gollnick is a five-time Ironman Champion, her most recent win coming at the inaugural Ford Ironman Louisville in 2007. Her most recent win came at the Ironman 70.3 Pucon in January 2008. She won back-to-back titles at Ford Ironman Wisconsin in 2002 and 2003.
Ford Ironman 70.3 Florida will take place for the fifth time on Sunday, May 18th at Walt Disney World® Resort in Orlando, Florida. Athletes will compete for a pro prize purse of $30,000 and 50 qualifying spots for the 2008 Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3 to be held in Clearwater, Florida.
