Race will be first of its kind in the Charm City
BALTIMORE - (May 19, 2008) - Corrigan Sports Enterprises (CSE) has announced that the University of Maryland Heart Center will be the title sponsor of the inaugural Baltimore 10 Miler to take place on Saturday, June 21 at 7:30am inside Druid Hill Park near the Maryland Zoo.
"Here is an opportunity for us to demonstrate our commitment to the Baltimore community and to highlight the importance of exercise for overall cardiovascular health," said Alison Brown, MPH, Senior Vice President of Business Development & Marketing at the University of Maryland Medical Center. The University of Maryland Heart Center is a comprehensive center, providing a range of services spanning preventive cardiology to promote health and advanced multi disciplinary care for cardiac issues such as arrhythmia, valve and vessel disease and transplantation.
The course will run along two of Baltimore's lakeside parks. At the start, runners will pass the lake in Druid Hill Park to 33rd Street where they head east until reaching Lake Montebello. After a lap around the lake, participants will head west on 33rd street before returning to Druid Hill Park to complete the course.
"We feel that the 10 Miler fills a void in the Baltimore running scene," stated Lee Corrigan, president of Corrigan Sports. "This new race will give runners something to look forward during the winter or even kick off their training for the Baltimore Running Festival in October. Having the University of Maryland Heart Center as our title sponsor in the first year will give the event prestige."
The field will be limited to 2,000 participants who are able to finish the course in under 2 hours and 20 minutes and registration will only take place online. All finishers will receive a fleece. Registration will cost $50 and opens on Tuesday, May 20 at 10:00am.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the University of Maryland Heart Center, Baltimore Police Charities and the Maryland Zoo.
