By Margaret Sue Bozgoz, Foot Solutions Elite Team Head Running Coach and an ALL Armed Forces/ALL Army Marathon Runner,
Debuting in her first marathon, Elza Kireeva from Neftekamsk Russia, soared through the finish line with a strong 2nd place finish in 2:33:45, after first place Asmae Leghazoui of Morrocco set the course record in 2:28:43. The Ottawa ING Marathon was a host to more than 33,000 runners. Elza’s spectacular and effortless performance can be accredited to her custom inserts from Foot Solutions.
After having her first baby, Elza was ready to get back into shape and to race her first marathon. Previously, she had competed in various submarathon road races, but she was ready to take on the new distance. Along with her new challenges of being a mom and returning to running, Elza developed a biomechanical issue, which in time went from minor twinges to constant pain. However Elza’s determination kept her going despite her discomfort, but with time the unending pain started to take its toll.
With the constant pain, her coach contacted their coordinator, Sue Bozgoz, from Foot Solutions. Bozgoz is herself an accomplished runner with 51 marathons, as well as an ALL Army Marathoner and Track Runner. The custom inserts from Foot Solutions allowed Elza to deal with her initial biomechanical problem. The international foot care company Foot Solutions focuses on foot care and creating a proper fit for all lifestyles. A problem with biomechanics can seem minor at first, yet with each additional mile and extra step, a small discrepancy exasperates it into a much larger one. Biomechanics are the foundation of running injury free and most efficiently. A slight alteration in biomechanics can be both easy to control and easy to get out of hand. With an average runner covering 30-40 miles a week, which breaks down to thousands of steps and with a biomechanical inconsistency can lead to thousands of incorrect steps. Each misstep leads to added stress on various parts of the body creating more pain and causing more injury.
Fortunately for Elza with her coach’s guidance and Foot Solutions’ help, the sub marathon runner was able to finish strong and pain free “I have only just begun”. As her first marathon is the beginning to pain free distance running Elza says, “I want to personally like to thank Foot Solutions for making every foot step I took today pain free”.
