U.S. junior 800m runner Chanelle Price put in another outstanding performance last Saturday at the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletics Association (PIAA) Track and Field Championships in Shippensburg. The 17 year-old athlete, who is in her final year at Easton High School, dominated the two-lap event with a 2:02.90 clocking, ten seconds up on runner-up Shaniel Chambers of Chester (2:12.18). Her mark broke four-time Olympian Joetta Clark-Diggs' National Federation of High Schools record (2:04.50) and two-time Olympic medalist Kim Gallagher's PIAA meet record (2:05.47), according to USA Track & Field.
Price, who turns 18 on August 22, actually has a faster personal best, but it was not set in a high school meeting. At last summer's AT&T USA Track & Field Championships she made the final, finishing seventh in 2:02.38, still her fastest time.
It's a longshot, but Price will attempt to make her first Olympic team at the USA Olympic Team Trials in Eugene, Ore., which begin on June 27. The Olympic Games "A" standard is 2:00.00.
