INDIANAPOLIS - Chanelle Price has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after breaking a national record in the 800 meters Saturday at the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletics Association (PIAA) Track and Field Championships in Shippensburg, Penn.
Price, a senior at Easton High School, completely dominated the girls' 800m crossing the finish line in 2 minutes 2.90 seconds. She finished almost 10 seconds ahead of the runner-up Shaniel Chambers of Chester (2:12.18). Her performance broke four-time Olympian Joetta Clark-Diggs' National Federation of High Schools record (2:04.50) and two-time Olympic medalist Kim Gallagher's PIAA meet record (2:05.47). The time was also fast enough to earn a "B" qualifier for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Track and Field.
Now in its seventh year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
