(Duluth, Minn.) Grandma’s Marathon has announced Northland’s NewsCenter sports director Tom Hansen as the recipient of the 2008 Marsh Nelson Media Award.
Hansen has been covering Grandma’s Marathon and its accompanying events for more than 20 years. He has been a fixture in the local sports scene since beginning his Twin Ports media career in 1985. In addition to his television duties, the St. Paul native is the radio play-by-play voice of the four-time NCAA champion University of Minnesota Duluth women’s hockey team.
“Tom is very deserving of this special award and we are pleased to recognize his many contributions to Grandma’s Marathon. He does a great job covering not only our events, but all local sports in the area,” says Scott Keenan, executive director of Grandma’s Marathon.
Hansen will receive the award at 9th annual Marsh Nelson Media Luncheon & Award Ceremony on Friday, June 20, in the Lake Superior Ballroom at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC).
This award is given annually to a media representative to recognize his or her commitment to the coverage and development of Grandma’s Marathon. The special award is named in memory of former KDLH-TV sports director Marsh Nelson for his tremendous passion for covering Grandma’s Marathon and other local athletic events.
