(St. Paul, MN – 6/02/2008)–– “Best of the US” Management and Race Director Chad Tower invite the triathletes of the Sunflower State to race at the venerable SHAWNEE MISSION TRIATHLON / BEST OF THE US KANSAS QUALIFIER, a popular 24-year-old intermediate distance event in Shawnee, Kansas on Sunday, July 13. Those who register before June 6 will be eligible for a drawing for a $500 gift certificate from BikeSource Multisport. Additionally, the event is pleased to announce the participation of two-time Hawaiian Ironman World Champion Tim DeBoom.
Kansas has many fine triathletes. Female standouts include Katie Barnoski (2005 and 2007 KS State BOUS Representative), Jennifer Blades, Leslie Curley, Chrissy Hilgers, Mary Lea Kieffer, Ginny Lee (2006 KS BOUS Representative), Leeann Reed, Sara Rosenkranz, Darcy Simpson, Nancy Strickland, Ashleigh Sumner and Chrissy Usher. For the men, there’s Gregg Buehler, Tim Mesger, Matt Morrow, Kevin Nickel, Kevin Sampson (2006 KS BOUS Representative), Bob Schloegel, Nick Schultz (2005 KS BOUS Representative), Allyn Smith and James Wilburn. “Curley, Lee, Rosenkranz, Schloegel and Buehler are well-respected national class talents and would give Kansas a very strong presence at the Championship in October,” noted Jerry MacNeil, BOUS PR Director.
The fastest male and female resident amateurs will receive invitations to represent Kansas at the “Best of the US National Championship” on October 26 at Tempe Towne Lake in Tempe, Arizona.
