Triathlon: A Meeting at the Summit - Titan’s Descend on Ironman France 2008

Watch over 50 IAAF Events Live and On-Demand at WCSN.com

On Sunday 22 June, the triathlon world will turn its attention to Nice. In only four years, Ironman France has become the biggest Ironman worldwide, with more than 2,500 athletes. At the same time as the growth of the event in Nice, it is with awe that the 60000 spectators watch the professional field filling out, to offer a quality event which is something to be envied.

For this 4th edition of Ironman France, numerous champions will once again take their place on the start line. All of them hope to be ahead of their opponents to reach their goal: win the French event and then be granted a slot for Hawaii. However, many of them could contend for the title, and their commitment will be all out.

Concerning the males, two times winner Marcel Zamora Perez (ESP) will be there one more time. Although he is a serious contender, many favorite athletes will also be there. Among them, we can count on the 2007 world champion Julien Loy (FRA) and runner-up Xavier Le Floch. Their fellow citizen and one time Ironman France winner’s Hervé Faure (FRA) will run for victory too. Other outstanding athletes, such as Rutger Béké (BEL) winner of the Ironman Monaco 70.3 and Jozsef Major (HUN), winner of Arizona, will be present to increase their chance of a final ranking.

On the women’s side, an incredible race is also on the cards. Alexandra Louison (FRA) will try to reach the finish line first for the second time. Even if she knows the race course like the back of her hand, she will have to be careful of Katja Schumacher (GER) who has already won four Ironman races. Besides both champions, Katya Meyer’s (USA) challenge will have to be carefully watched. She could be a threat to the favorite’s athletes.

Famous French cyclist Laurent Jalabert will participate at his very first Ironman France. Obviously, he is one of the favorites for the Bike, and could amaze us with his Finisher’s rank.

The dice is cast. At around 15h15 for men and 16h00 for the women, Ironman France will have two new heroes. Bets are open.
