OTTAWA – Athletics Canada announced today the sites for five Canadian Championships held in 2009 and 2010.
“On behalf of Athletics Canada I would like to thank all of the groups who submitted bids,” said Joanne Mortimore, Athletics Canada Chief Executive Officer. “We received a number of very strong proposals which bodes well for upcoming Canadian Championships. We are confident that the chosen host organizations will meet Athletics Canada’s objectives, more importantly we look forward to working with the host committees to set new benchmarks along the way.”
A trio of championships will be returning to familiar settings. The Cross Country Championships will return to Guelph in 2009 and 2010, the Half Marathon Championships will return to Montréal for two years and the Marathon Championships will stay in Ottawa for another year (2009).
The 2009 and 2010 editions of the Junior Track and Field Championships will be staged New Brunswick. Moncton will also be the site of the 2010 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Junior Championships.
Toronto will host the 2009 and 2010 Canadian Track and Field Championships. Next year’s Championships (2009) will also serve as the selection trials for the 2009 IAAF World Athletics Championships which will be held in Berlin, Germany.
