By Nicole Degner

World-renowned Orthopedic and custom insert designer, Matheus Kremer, is bringing his exceptional and innovative expertise to the international running field.

Matheus’ work is no secret to the international footwear industry. His name is well known throughout the business with the numerous prestigious awards that he has received, such as the Inventive Solutions in the Cad Cam Orthopedics for 3D scanning, most Inventive Design of Multi Width Boots, and for most Inventive Design of the Comfort Sandal. Through these national awards and inventions, there are now greater options for all people with different widths and more adjustments to meet the unique size of each foot.

These prestigious awards are matched with high profile athletes seeking out the best footwear in order to reach their performance goals. His work includes both individual athletes and national teams. He designed skates for the Dutch Olympic Skating team, as well as their World Champion Rintje Ritsma. Another team Matheus partnered with was the national Dutch Soccer Team, along with the famous soccer players Johan Cruyff and Ronald Koeman.

While he continues to teach and to spread his knowledge, his interests have expanded to focus on designing custom shoes for runners. More recently, he has both designed inserts and shoes for the marathon Olympic medalist Valentina Yegorova.

“I have found that what most long distance runners need in order to stay injury free is to achieve balance,” said Kremer.

Runners without balance are like cars motoring down the highway with a “flat tire” he said. As a majority of runners need custom inserts due to biomechanical issues, “Once they are fitted with custom inserts, they will feel relief immediately” Kremer said. As running grows in popularity and the average runner is seeking to take their performance to a higher level, Matheus will have a lot to offer.

As he seeks to help people with their feet, he consequently helps people with knee, joint, and back problems as many of these are interrelated. “I am not getting any younger. My goal in life is to simply create, find and educate people whose feet hurt, and give solutions for their feet” said Kremer.

These awards and accomplishments go beyond being great inventions, because they have created greater awareness, which has led to further product development. A higher standard of excellence has been established in the shoe production, custom sole insert and marathoning industry.

As Marathoning across the world continues to grow each year according to 2007 MarathoningGuide.com statistics, the running industry will obviously need more foot care experts on the side lines.
