Triathlon: 16 Times Around The World In 16 Hours

Watch over 50 IAAF Events Live and On-Demand at WCSN.com

With over 2600 registered athletes, Ironman of Nice will surely be the biggest Ironman world wide ever. By adding up distances run by each participant, we will obtain a race length up to 600 000 kilometers. From a different point of view, one can say that our Ironman participants will have completed 16 trips around the world, in only 16 hours. To go around the world has always been a dream for many people. Since discovery of Galilee, load of explorers attempted to make this journey. Whatever way they chose, by earth, throughout the ocean or in the air, with or without any stop, to reach the finish line of that adventure still remains a real challenge.

On Sunday 22 of June, it is close to 15 loops around the world that will be completed in Ironman France. 2600 athletes from more than 50 countries will run a record distance over 600 000 kilometers combined. These impressive figures show the importance of this event.

Whether histories of world conquest are real or fanciful, numerous persons left their trace on this around the world race. Magellan in 1522 led the first expedition who managed a trip around the globe. Then, a lot of realized attempt followed by the more or less famous. But one of the most notable adventures may be the one written by Jules Verne whereupon his hero, Phileas Fogg, bet with his colleagues that he could be able to achieve this journey in less than 80 days!

Each of these attempts has a one major goal in common: the time. Each tries to be faster than the last challenge, and it is difficult to hold a new record. Even if the means to succeed have changed, their involvement is still absolute.

Whatever their aims and their level of practice, all athletes will have a same goal in mind. Try to reach their dream by passing over the Finish line and becoming an Ironman!
