Cycling: Tour de France Power File Analysis and Live Data

Tour de France cycling fans can watch live heart rate, power, cadence and speed transmitted daily at TrainingPeaks.com from the SRM power meters of several Team Columbia racers such as George Hincapie, Adam Hansen and Marcus Burghardt. After each day's stage, fans can download and view the power files within TrainingPeaks WKO+ complete with analysis and comments by power expert Hunter Allen

Lafayette, Colorado. July 10, 2008 - During the 2008 Tour de France, cycling fans can watch and later analyze at TrainingPeaks.com/tourdefrance2008/ the heart rates, power, cadence and speeds streaming live from the SRM power meters on the bikes of several Team Columbia racers such as George Hincapie, Adam Hansen and Marcus Burghardt. After each day's stage, fans can download the files and read analysis by Hunter Allen in TrainingPeaks WKO+.

The SRM power meters on the racer's bicycles display instantaneous heart rate (bpm), power (watts), cadence (rpm) and speed (mph) as they race. The data provides the racer an objective way to measure his efforts during the race and recognize if he is pushing too hard or not enough. Post race, rider and coach can analyze the data to evaluate his performance and then use that knowledge to plan tactics for the next day's stage. During and after each stage of the 2008 Tour de France, cycling fans can do a similar analysis courtesy of SRM, Team Columbia, TrainingPeaks and the racers themselves.

"Being able to analyze the data from riders such as Hansen, Hincapie and Burghardt provides true perspective for the cycling fan who wants to see what it takes to ride the Tour de France," says Hunter Allen, co-author of the book Training and Racing with a Power Meter. "Because so many cyclists track their own power and heart rate numbers, the analysis of a pro-tour racer's data relative to their own is just as astounding as watching the race itself".

Hunter Allen, one of the world's premier experts on training with power, will analyze the files from each stage in TrainingPeaks WKO+, which allows him to select and write about specific points and segments in each rider's race. His notes include observations about both the stage itself and the effort needed to race that day as well as interpretation specifically analyzing each racer's performance.

After downloading the racer's files at TrainingPeaks.com, the desktop software TrainingPeaks WKO+ is required to view the data and to read Hunter Allen's comments. A free trial of TrainingPeaks WKO+ is available here, however, no software is required to view the live SRM data during each stage.
