FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Members of the Arkansas Razorback men’s track and field team were named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s (USTFCCCA) 2008 All-Academic Team, it was announced last week.
Tyler Hill (3.49; biology/pre-med), Alex McClary (3.41; business economics) and James Strang (3.27; English) were the Razorbacks named to the list. Hill’s eligibility was completed in the spring while McClary and Strang each have a full year of cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field left.
A record total of 266 student-athletes representing 111 Division I institutions made up the men's 2008 All-Academic team.
The University of Nebraska led all institutions with nine student-athletes on the All-Academic team, followed closely by Oregon and Stanford, each with eight student-athletes on the team. Kansas State and UCLA each placed six student-athletes on the team.
The USTFCCCA honors Division I individuals for their academic and athletic achievements during the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or the NCAA Division I Outdoor regional or national qualifying standard in their respective event.
Razorback men’s cross country will open the season Fri., Sept. 5 at the Arkansas/MSSU Dual. The race will be held at Fayetteville’s Agri Park.
