OTTAWA - Two Canadians will compete this weekend in the 6th IAAF World Athletics Final as the event makes its return to Gottlieb Daimler Stadium in Stuttgart, Germany.
Olympic bronze medalist Priscilla Lopes-Schliep of Whitby, ON will compete in the 100-metre hurdles on Saturday September 13th at 4:20pm local time. The field will feature six of the eight women who made the 2008 Olympics final including gold and silver medalists Dawn Harper of the United-States and Sally McLellan of Australia.
Dylan Armstrong of Kamloops, BC will compete in the shot put, his signature event, at 5:25pm local time Saturday. Dylan finished fourth at the Olympic Games missing out on the medal ceremony by one centimetre to bronze medalist Andrei Mikhnevich of Belarus. Mikhnevich will not be in Stuttgart for the World Athletics Final but both gold and silver medalists, Tomasz Majewski of Poland and Christian Cantwell of the United States will provide strong competition.
Both Armstrong and Lopes-Schliep finished in third place at this week’s Zagreb meet, which was the final meet of the 2008 World Athletics Tour. The entry list for the IAAF World Athletics Final is determined by the tour standings at the end of the 25 meetings.
