(RRW) Athletics: Story On Wanjiru Home Invasion Proves False

Yesterday's story published by Agence France-Presse about a home invasion which reportedly took place at Samuel Wanjiru's house in Nyahururu has proved false, Race Results Weekly learned today.

Isaac Macharia, a Kenyan athlete who trained with Wanjiru in Ngong prior to the Beijing Olympics, telephoned Wanjiru today when his manager, Zane Branson, showed Macharia the AFP story (Macharia and Branson were both in Rotterdam for today's half-marathon).

"We just called Wanjuri to find that he is in fact in Ngong and the incident reported is false," wrote Branson in an e-mail message to Race Results Weekly, "100% confirmed by Samuel himself."

Branson reported that a small group of thugs did arrive outside of the gates of Wanjiru's Nyahururu property, but were prevented from entering by his guard. Wanjiru had gone to Ngong on Thursday to resume training, Macharia told Branson.

"Wanjiru's wife and family where at home at the time but that about the only truth to the story," Branson concluded.
