INDIANAPOLIS (October 18, 2008)-The Indianapolis Marathon & Half Marathon at Lawrence celebrates its 13th year on October 18, 2008. Over 5,600 runners and walkers are currently registered for this year’s race in the marathon 1,400, half marathon 3,100, 5K 600 sold-out, 1 Mile Kids Run 150 and 4-person Marathon Relay 368 (92 teams). “With registration online open until Wednesday October 14 and the walk up registration available at the packet pick-up on Friday we should reach a full field of 6,000 participants the 5K is already sold-out,” says Race Director Joel Sauer.
The race starts at Saturday at 8:30 AM at Fort Benjamin Harrison and weaves throughout scenic Lawrence, through Fort Benjamin Harrison State Park and along the Fall Creek Corridor. Packet Pick-up and walk up registration will be held at Benjamin Harrison YMCA in Lawrence on Friday October 16 from 11:00am-8:00pm. There is No race day registration.

The Indianapolis Marathon and Half Marathon is proud to host the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) 2008 Indiana State Championship events for the Marathon and Half Marathon! State Champions are formally recognized in both the Full Marathon and Half Marathon in the following categories: Overall Champions, Masters Champions (40+), and Grand-Masters Champions (50+). Boston Marathon Qualifiers
The Indianapolis Marathon is proud to be an official Boston Marathon Qualifying event. This year there are approximately 150 Marathon Runners trying to qualify for the 2009 and 2010 Boston Marathons. Due to our unprecedented 25% growth in 2008 for the race, the charity giving has also increased by 25% in 2008! The Indianapolis Marathon & Half Marathon will donate over $30,000 to local charities in 2008! Charity partners include TEAM MS (Multiple Sclerosis Foundation), American Cancer Society, St. Jude’s Hospital and the Tourette Syndrome Association together have raised over $100,000 with record number of participants in their fundraisers as well. Over the 13 year history, the Indianapolis Marathon & Half Marathon has given over $350,000 to local charities and non-profit organizations!
