Following hot on the heels of the recent Ironman World Championship win by Australia’s Craig Alexander, comes news that the country’s first Triathlon Super Team in Team HiPer3 is taking their lead from Alexander and gunning for gold at this month’s Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3 in Clearwater, Florida.
Based on the concept of many global sports teams, Team HiPer3 will race under the brand of their new global branding partner (once secured). With a number of parties currently expressing an interest, they look set to kick of their world championship results sheet with a bang!
Four HiPer3 athletes have qualified to challenge for the title in Florida, ironically previously held by Alexander! The team head to Florida extremely confident of putting on a powerful show, and ultimately walking away with one of the toughest victories in world sport.
Headlining the team is three time ITU world champion and two time Olympian, Peter Robertson. “This is a new era in triathlon competition. Racing for the value of a team will allow us to change the dynamic of a race and work towards a common goal of a team member taking the win.” Robertson said recently.
Robertson will be joined in Florida by team mates, Australian Olympian Simon Thompson, Australian representative David Dellow and British representative Ryan O’Neill.
Three team members qualified for the Ironman World Championship 70.3 from the team’s world debut in Singapore, where this remarkable team also notched up 1st place outright plus 3rd and 4th male outright results in a remarkable debut in the Aviva Ironman 70.3 Singapore in September.
Raced in a hot climate and hotter weather conditions, not unlike those expected in Clearwater, the results have prove this team is the next ‘hot’ property out of Australia, and sure to make a big impression on the dynamic and exciting global sport that is triathlon.
