Adidas Supernova Cushion 7 named Best Update; Brooks wins Green Award at the 2008 International Shoe Summit
NEW YORK - (November 2, 2008) - The international editors of Runner's World magazine, the worldwide authority on running information, awarded ASICS Gel-Kayano 14 with the International Editor's Choice award for best shoe of 2008. Now in its fourth year, the 2008 International Shoe Summit unites the editors and publishers of Runner's World's 14 global editions for an exclusive look at the 2009 product lines from today's leading running shoe manufacturers. A special award ceremony, held on Saturday evening at Providence in New York City, concluded the annual three-day conference.
The Runner's World International Editor's Choice award for "Shoe of the Year" is presented annually in collaboration with the International Shoe Summit, part of Runner's World's global initiative to find, test and designate the best shoes in the world for its readers in the 14 countries where it currently publishes: Australia / New Zealand, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, The Netherlands / Belgium, Poland, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States.
"Runner's World is a trusted resource around the globe, identifying the running shoes with the best combination of design, technology and performance for the international running community," said David Willey, Editor-in-Chief of Runner's World USA. "Runner's World congratulates ASICS for receiving the International Editor's Choice award for their Gel-Kayano 14."
The ASICS Gel-Kayano 14 features an updated midsole made of lightweight foam designed to bounce back quickly. A new plastic plate sitting on top of the Gel unit, provides the heel with additional support and stability. The ASICS Gel-Kayano 14 is recommended for runners looking for a secure, well-cushioned shoe.
Additional winners at the 2008 International Shoe Summit included the adidas Supernova Cushion 7, which received the International Best Update and Brooks' BioMoGo, the biodegradable cushioning material found in the midsole of the Trance 8, which received the International Green Award. The International Best Update is awarded to a shoe that demonstrates standout improvements and/or revisions. The 2008 Supernova Cushion 7 now offers more room in the midfoot and two new heel plates, making this update more stable than its predecessor. The International Green award goes to the technology or company that best addresses the environmental impact of running. Brooks Trance 8 encompasses not only 100% recycled polyester shoelaces, but also BioMoGo foam midsoles designed to break down 50 times faster, saving 29.9 million pounds of landfill waste over a 20 year period.
Runner's World editors and hundreds of independent wear-testers, both domestically and globally, put all running shoes through rigorous testing. Additionally, mechanical testing at the Runner's World Shoe Lab objectively assesses all reviewed shoes. Runner's World's widely-recognized and respected "Editor's Choice Award Seal of Approval Program" allows runners around the world to recognize Runner's World International Editor's Choice seal as a way to help select the most appropriate shoes for their level and needs.
Representatives from manufacturers ASICS, adidas, Brooks, Mizuno, New Balance, Nike, Puma, Reebok and Saucony were among those presenting before 14 international Runner's World editors at this year's International Shoe Summit.
