Athletics: US Road Sports Names Hughes Race Director of the ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon

Veteran of Atlanta Track Club Brings Broad Operational Background

(ATLANTA, Nov. 14, 2008) –US Road Sports & Entertainment Group, owners of the ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon, named veteran road race organizer Michael Hughes as race director for the 2009 event. The 2009 ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon, which will be run on Sunday, March 29, has received several prominent accolades and awards and recently announced its selection by the Road Runners Club of America as its Southern Region Marathon Championship for 2009.

“Race operations is an essential element of creating an exceptional racer experience; Michael brings an unparalleled depth and breadth of expertise in operations and tactical race development,” said Greg Laird, partner, US Road Sports & Entertainment Group. “As race director, he will be instrumental in our efforts to reach our goals for the ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon and in our ability to create a well-performing race organization in Georgia.”

Well known in the running community, Hughes was previously the director of operations for the Atlanta Track Club. While in the position, he was the lead operations director for events including the one of the largest 10Ks in the country, the Peachtree Road Race. He has served as the operations director of more than 600 running events ranging in field size from 100 to as big as 55,000. He has managed the operations for multiple triathlon events and served as the race director for several other sporting events.

About the ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon
The 2009 ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon, to be held on Sunday, March 29, is Georgia’s picturesque, springtime, neighborhood–based distance combo event. Beginning at Centennial Olympic Park, it will travel through 26.2 miles (and 13.1 miles for the half marathon) of Metro Atlanta area’s most interesting and historic areas including the Sweet Auburn District, Inman Park, Midtown, Downtown and the city of Decatur. Along the way it will pass landmarks including the King Center, and Carter Center, before returning to Centennial Olympic Park for the finish. A limit of 15,000 registrations will be accepted for the 2009 ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon. The event is managed by US Road Sports of Georgia.
