Athletics: Nation’s Top Cross-Country Club Teams And Individuals To Compete At Nike Cross Nationals

Fifth-Annual Club Team and Individual Cross Country Championships Will Be Held in Portland, Oregon with the Support of 10 Elite Running Athletes

Nike Cross Nationals (NXN), the country’s only club team and individual national championship in high school cross country, will showcase the two best cross country clubs and top five individuals (not on qualifying clubs) from nine regions--Heartland, Midwest, Northwest, Southwest, South, Northeast, Southeast, California and New York--as well as four at-large teams.

A live webcast for NXN beginning at 9:55 a.m. PST is available on www.nikecrossnationals.com featuring Adam Goucher with Toni Reavis and Rich Gonzalez in the booth and Chris Solinsky and Kara Goucher on the ground.

Schedule:
December 6, 2008
8:30 a.m.: Girls Open Race       
9:00 a.m.: Boys Open Race
10:30 a.m.: Girls Championship Race 
12:00 p.m.: Boys Championship Race 

The event will be run at Portland Meadows in Portland, Ore.

Nike elite athletes and some of the world’s top runners will represent their respective regions:

·         Abdi Abdirahman (Southwest)
·         Matt Tegenkamp (Heartland)
·         Dathan Ritzenhein (Midwest)
·         Shalane Flanagan (Northeast)
·         Alan Webb (Southeast)
·         Adam Goucher (South)
·         Bernard Lagat (New York)
·         Shannon Rowbury (California)

As the only club team and individual national championship in high school cross country, Nike Cross Nationals brings together the top high-school-aged, cross-country club teams and athletes in America. The NXN is part of the larger Nike Nationals championship series established in 2004 to help strengthen the national circuit for high school cross country and track & field and to celebrate the sport.
