The race for the last entries into Ironman France 2009 has begun! With more than two thirds of the spots already taken, it seems that for the first time, entries will be closed before the end of the year! Those who have not signed up yet, and are still thinking about racing Ironman France on 28 June 2009, have not got too much time left to enter!
With 503 French athletes, “La Grande Nation” will be the largest country represented at Ironman France – Nice Triathlon. Athletes from the United Kingdom are in second place: 386 triathletes from the islands will finish the triathlon with a 42.2km marathon on the Promenade des Anglais that has always lived up to its name and will not disappoint athletes this year. 175 triathletes will travel from Spain in order to participate in the race that has been won by their countryman Marcel Zamora for three consecutive years. Germany with almost 150 entries and the United States complete the top 5 countries as far as registration activity is concerned.
The registered athletes represent 49 different nationalities today, and on race day there will be more than 50 different nationalities on the starting line. 10% of the athletes are female, leaving 90% of the entries to the men.
“Our objective is to host once again one of the biggest Ironman races in Nice in 2009. We are happy and proud to be able to welcome so many triathletes to our competition, and we work hard all year long to improve it every year!” says Race Director Yves Cordier.
The 5th edition of Ironman France will take place on 28 June 2009. The Pros and amateurs will swim 3.8km in the Mediterranean, cycle 180km in the hinterland and run a marathon on the Promenade des Anglais. Entries are still open on IronmanFrance.com.
