Tampa Bay, FL (December 5, 2009) – Today, Ironman announces that Ford Ironman Louisville, taking place on August 30, 2009, has reached capacity. Registration for next year’s race officially opened on September 1, 2008. The event serves as one of 22 official qualifiers for the Ford Ironman World Championship that takes place each October in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.
The 2.4 mile/3.8 km swim takes place in the Ohio River and the 112 mile/180.2 km bike course entails rolling hills in Oldham and Henry counties and the city of LaGrange. The marathon run course encompasses many of Louisville’s signature sites such as U of L’s waterfront campus and Churchill Downs. Over the last two years, the event has seen athletes ranging in age from 18 to 75-years-old and from nearly 50 states and 20 countries.
To offer athletes an additional opportunity to gain entry into the sold-out event, Ironman will be offering Community Foundation slots for 2009. Slots will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis and will cost $1,300.00 USD, which includes athlete registration and a $775.00 tax-deductible donation to The Ironman Foundation Inc., a not-for-profit organization. One hundred percent of all donations made to The Ironman Foundation Inc. will be distributed to various local organizations and charities based in Louisville, KY.
