INDIANAPOLIS - 2008 NCAA DII Cross Country champion Scott Bauhs has been
named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after winning the
Synaptics Elite Athlete 5 km Thursday in San Jose, Calif.
In his first race as a professional, Bauhs tied the course record,
covering the 5 km course in 13 minutes 37 seconds. It is the fastest
time by an American for 5 km on the road this year.
Elsewhere, National high school 1,500m record-holder Jordan Hasay won
her fourth consecutive CIF state cross country title Saturday at
Woodward Park in Fresno, Calif. Hasay covered the 5 km course in 17:18,
finishing over one minute ahead of her nearest competitor.
Now in its seventh year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed
to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF
names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF
website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the
previous week.
