Richmond event aims to be largest duathlon event ever in the U.S.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (December 5, 2008) -- Registration for the 2009 USA Triathlon Duathlon National Championships, which organizers are anticipating to be “the largest duathlon in the American history of the sport,” is underway at duathlonnationals.com.
The two-day multisport festival will take place April 25-26, 2009, in Richmond, Va.
Races at the National Duathlon Festival include the USA Triathlon Duathlon National Championship, the USAT Duathlon Sport Race, the USAT Duathlon Youth/Junior Championship Races, the Off-Road Duathlon National Championship Race, the Off-Road Duathlon Sport Race and the Off-Road Duathlon Junior Races. In addition, physically challenged athletes will compete for titles in their classes. Athletes do not need to qualify to compete in any of the races.
In the USAT Duathlon National Championship race, the top 12 finishers in each age group, rolling down to 16th place, will earn a spot on Team USA for the 2009 Duathlon World Championship in Concord, N.C., on September 24- 26.
“A renewed commitment to the sport of duathlon by the local organizing committee and USA Triathlon will surely generate an event to remember in 2009,” said Jon Lugbill, executive director of the Sports Backers. “The greater Richmond area looks forward to the return of the best duathlon competitors in the country for the 2009 Duathlon National Championships.”
USA Triathlon will provide more details on the event as they are finalized.
