OTTAWA - The 44th Annual Knights of Columbus Indoor Games will begin tomorrow at the Saskatoon Field House in Saskatchewan. The event features both open and age class competitions with world class invitational athletes, para-athletics athletes, special Olympic athletes, and elementary school relays.
Each year this event honours an individual athlete with the Jack Wells Testimonial Award. This award recognizes outstanding contributions and attendance to the Knights of Columbus Indoor Games. Nicolas Macrozonaris is the proud recipient of this award and will be honoured for his contributions, his athletic excellence and his hard work as a role model for young Canadians. At the 2008 Knights of Columbus Indoor Games he posted the fastest 50-metres time run by any athlete in the world for the year.
Other competitors to watch for:
The men’s 50-metre and 60-metre races will feature five Olympians from the 2008 Games including: Bryan Barnett of Edmonton, AB; Pierre Browne of North York, ON; Hank Palmer of Lasalle, QC and Emanuel Parris of Edmonton, AB. Tyler Christopher of Edmonton, AB will run in the men’s 60-metre race along with the previously mentioned athletes.
Kimberley Hyacinthe of Lachenaie, QC and Geneviève Thibault of Quebec City, QC will battle to the finish line in the women’s 50 and 60-metre races. 2008 Olympic semi-finalist Carline Muir of Edmonton, AB will line-up in the women’s 400-metres.
