NEW YORK (13-Jan) -- This city of over eight million continued to be one of the most robust road running venues in the United States last year, as nearly a quarter million pairs of feet crossed the finish lines of New York Road Runners (NYRR) events in 2008, according to statistics released here today.
Staging a total of 69 events throughout the year, the NYRR attracted 334,855 entrants which translated into 238,104 finishers. Out of that finisher total, 38,096 completed the ING New York City Marathon, the organization's largest event and the world's largest marathon. Their second-largest event was the NYC Half-Marathon Presented by NIKE (10,506 finishers) and the popular Scotland Run 10-K in the Spring (6,964 finishers). Their five-race NYRR Half-Marathon Grand Prix Presented by Continental Airlines recorded 20,782 finishers.
Out of their portfolio of 69 events, the New York Junior League Mother's Day four-mile grew by the biggest percentage, more than doubling from the previous year to 3,319 finishers.
The full slate of NYRR events can be found at the organization's website at NYRR.org.
