The Minnesota Elite Athlete Development Program (MEADP) recently awarded $7,000 in grants to seven Minnesota elite runners.
Melissa Gacek, Eric Hartmark, Jennifer Hess, Kristen Nicolini Lehmkuhle, Kim Magee, Jeremy Polson and Antonio Vega were selected through an application process to receive funds designed to help offset training, travel and competition expenses. The grants were awarded Jan. 17 at the Minnesota Distance Running Association (MDRA) Annual Meeting in Edina, Minn.

In 1998, the Minnesota distance running community created MEADP to provide financial assistance to elite Minnesota distance runners who have completed their academic running careers. The program provides grants to assist qualified runners in reaching their full athletic potential. The program is funded through contributions from Austin-Jarrow Sports, Grandma’s Marathon-Duluth, Inc., MDRA and Twin Cities Marathon, Inc.
