(St. Paul, MN – 3/9/2009)–– “Best of the US” Management, Race Director Steve Bussjaeger and Tri OKC invite the triathletes of the Sooner State to race at the 5th annual ROUTE 66 TRIATHLON / BEST OF THE US OKLAHOMA QUALIFIER at El Reno, OK near Oklahoma City on Sunday, May 31.
Oklahoma boasts a surprising amount of talented triathletes. Female standouts include Ana Basora, Dana Chance (2005 OK BOUS Representative), Shannon Chasteen (2007 Representative), Julie Curry, Amanda Erwin (2008 Representative), Joana Fedick, Dawn Harth, Jennifer Johnson, Desiree Nowlin, Lori O’lin, Martha Royall, Denise Smart, Jessica Tranchina and emerging teen star K.K. Washborne. For the men, there’s Christian Ballard (2008 Representative), Joshua Baucom, Rob Chance, Stephen Groden, Lee Guthrie, Chris Hunt, Carter Johnson, Stuart Lisle, Joel McCutcheon, Scott Ostrem, Chuck Sloan and Phillip Vanlandingham. “Sloan and Erwin are special. Sloan was a track and cross country star at Oklahoma State University before transitioning into multisports. He has gone on to be crowned National Duathlon Champion and 30-34 National Triathlon champ. Erwin is one of the US’s premier multisportswomen, as she proved with her 6th place finish against the deepest head-to-head women’s field of the year at the 2008 Best of the US National Championship.. Either would be a podium contender at the 2009 BOUS Championship in Mission Viejo, California on September 27, and together they’d be among the favorites to win the Fastest State Team Competition.
Any combination of the abovementioned male and female triathletes will insure a strong presence for Oklahoma at the Championship.
