(St. Paul, MN – 3/10/2009)–– In 2008, Nathan White of Des Moines established himself as Iowa’s premier amateur triathletes. Indeed, he was arguably one of the top 10 US amateurs. Highlighting his 2008 resume was his 2nd place finishes at the ultra-competitive Hy-Vee and Life Time Fitness-Minneapolis triathlons, and his 3rd place overall finish at the USAT Age Group National Championships. If he stays healthy in 2009, don’t be surprised if he is one of the finalists for USAT Athlete of the Year.
For the fifth consecutive year the popular and well-produced Pigman Sprint Triathlon will host the Best of the US Iowa Qualifier. The ___-year-old race, consisting of a .5K swim, 25K bike and 5K run, will be staged on June 7 at Pleasant Creek Recreation Area northwest of Cedar Rapids. The fastest amateur Iowa man and women will receive invitations to represent themselves and their state of the Best of the US National Championship on September 27 in Mission Viejo, California. Nathan White will be favored to earn the men’s invitation.
Though favored, several other talented Iowans will attempt to prevent White from grabbing the BOUS invitation, most notably Jason Maurice of Fairfield (Jason won the prestigious Vineman Ironman 70.3 in 2008), emerging star Chris Vanderlinden of Iowa City, Weslie Anderson, also of Iowa City, and two-time Iowa BOUS representative Mike Morrison of Urbandale.
Among the registered women—Pigman’s field has already filled--who have a legitimate shot at earning a BOUS invitation are Erin Anderson (Iowa City), Apryl Harbaugh (Iowa City) and Danielle Williams (North Liberty).
