Lundstrom to Speak at Pre-race Training Seminar
If you are training for a race during Grandma's Marathon weekend, then you won’t want to miss the annual Gearing Up for Grandma's pre-race seminar on Saturday, March 21. Join SMDC Health System, the Duluth News Tribune and Grandma's Marathon for this free event from 9 – 11 a.m. in SMDC Health System’s First Street Building at 420 East First Street.
One of the runners getting prepared for the June 20 Grandma’s Marathon is the seminar’s featured guest speaker — Chris Lundstrom. A Team USA Minnesota member since 2001, Lundstrom ran his debut marathon at Grandma’s in 2001, finishing 15th with a time of 2:23:28. His personal best marathon time is 2:17:34, which he set at the 2006 USA Marathon Championships. He has also competed twice in the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials.
A graduate of Northfield (Minn.) High School, Lundstrom holds the record as the fastest Minnesotan to run the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon. His time of 1:05:12 in 2002 places him fourth fastest overall in the race’s 18-year history. Last year, he finished 7th in 1:07:22.
Other presenters include Dr. Kenji Sudoh, a SMDC Health System orthopaedist, Heather Roy, a SMDC Health System dietician, and Jim Stukel, owner of The Athlete's Foot. Following the individual presentations, a question and answer session will be held with all of the presenters.
