Forty-two year old Cam Hill of Fountain Hills captured the Best of the U.S. slot for the third time in a row, besting Thomas Taylor (34) by 26 seconds. Thirty-five year old Brandon Sullivan was third about a minute back.
The women's race was tight, with the Best of the U.S. medalists separated by just 21 seconds. Kara Middendorf (31) was first, Sarah Lieneke-Nickle (30) second and Robin Watson (30) in third. Lori-Lynn Leach, a pro from Canada ineligible for BOUS qualifying, was actually first across the line.
In 2007, Hill and teammate Katie Ellis, who won the National Championship and now races pro, took the 2nd Fastest State Team trophies.
